Who in MAGA world will take over from Trump in 2028 – or maybe well before? |
One awful possibility is that perhaps the Trump name will continue to dominate the GOP: Anthony Scaramucci has observed that Donald Trump Jr. is “very popular with MAGA,” and thinks he “could get the nomination” although he doubts if deep down he really wants to do it.
Another possibility is Marco Rubio, currently Trump’s National Security Advisor. Rubio however was once a fiery Trump critic who made fun of the size of Trump’s hands. He is completely loyal now, but with personal insults, Trump is an elephant who never forgets. His endless attacks on Barack Obama are not about the Democrat’s policies, many of which actually foreshadowed Trump’s own ones (in a bad way) but related to his ‘humiliation’ at the 2011 White House Correspondents' Dinner when Obama made fun of Trump for campaigning for the release of the President's long-form birth certificate
One person that we think Trump would definitely prefer be ruled out as the next MAGA nominee is… J. D. Vance. Although as VP he is, in theory he is Trump’s other half, in reality Trump hates the idea of ever yielding to his running mate, and certainly has never forgiven Vance of calling him a “cynical asshole”, a sex-pest and even “America’s Hitler”. Even if Trump were the forgiving sort (which he isn’t) Vance would have an uphill battle convincing the world that he wasn’t just a shameless political chameleon. Vance was publicly humiliated in February when Trump flatly refused to name him as a potential successor. But this means Vance is uniquely likely to dethrone the king by other means…
Trump still pretends he might carry on for an unconstitutional third term, and having pretty much shredded all the other parts of the US Constitution, that’s not entirely a joke – but it is a delusion. Indeed, there is increasing doubt about whether the oldest President ever will see out the current term. Not because he might die, but because of symptoms of losing his mind.
After all, as long ago as 2015, his then ‘best buddy’, Epstein, was already telling journalists that Trump was “goofy” and wondering if it was a sign of early dementia. Right now, the symptoms are unmistakable - just as Biden’s mental decline was too. Trump stumbles over thoughts, mixes up a "word salad," a reduced vocabulary, and mixes up ideas and names.
Physically Trump now waddles slowly around with a "wide-based gait" in which one leg swings like a "dead weight," which some experts suggest could be a relic of a mini-stroke. All these, as the clinical psychologist and former Johns Hopkins professor Dr. John Gartner has repeatedly stated in interviews and podcasts with The Daily Beast, are symptoms of dementia, layered on top of ‘malignant narcissism’.
What's that then? Well, someone with extreme narcissistic traits (grandiosity, need for admiration) combined with antisocial features, aggression, sadism, and paranoia, making them manipulative, cruel, and lacking remorse.
Added to onset dementia, a symptom of which is increasingly disinhibited behaviour, the result is an ever cruder, more aggressive, and more confused version" of his personality.
Trump's niece, Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist herself, has publicly stated she sees symptoms in her uncle similar to those her father, Fred Trump Sr., exhibited in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. John Gartner also warns that Trump’s declining language, erratic gait, and disturbing anecdotes point to brain deterioration that make him uniquely dangerous.
History has seen the same pathology produce King Charles I of England, a monarch who became so obsessed with a need to destroy his enemies by whatever means came to hand, that he sponsored a series of army plots and abortive coups, culminating in the attempted arrest of the five members of Parliament in January 1642, and sparking the English Civil War. Which ended with his head being cut off, incidentally.
Three hundred years later, the same madness lay behind the Nazi era, in which Hitler surrounded himself by sycophants and embarked on strategies of extraordinary evil that left tens of millions dead and countries reduced to ruins.
Quite how far Trump will go is not clear, although already, in 2025, the mental cruelty and decay are unmistakable and this in a President who actually has the ability to launch the nuclear weapons that would destroy life on Earth.
So, it's not politics as usual. And so that's why we predict Trump will NOT see out his term of office, but will step down. Not entirely voluntarily, but under the threat of the application of the never-before used constitutional provision, section 4 of the 25th Amendment, that provides a mechanism for removing a President unable to perform duties due to physical or mental incapacity. Unfortunately, that does imply Vance up to '28, but surely not much longer.
