Biden's Dilemma

The longer Joe hangs on, the worse it is for Kamala…

Washington, Thursday,

Will Joe Biden soon have to step down as President? Rumors about Biden's health have dogged him ever since he announced he was planning to run as President, with a mocked-up Fox News article circulating on social media at the start of this year headlined "President-Elect Biden steps down as President-Elect."

Back then, fact-checkers were able to say confidently that his doctors had declared Biden to be in good health, "A vigorous, 77-year-old-male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency." And as for Covid-19, they were pleased to note that Biden got vaccinated against it in December with a second dose in January and a third, "booster" shot going to be injected "live on camera" in September this year.

But the issue won't go away so easily now. His recent trip to the Climate Change summit in Glasgow was rather disgracefully linked to an embarrassing digestive issue and even sympathetic commentators like Greg Ganske (72) have claimed to notice a "decline in his mental acuity". Writing for the Des Moines Register on August 15th, Ganske recalled that during the campaign Biden made numerous gaffes including saying, "I think we can win back the House" when it was already in his party's hands, renaming Super Tuesday "Super Thursday" - and forgetting the words of the Declaration of Independence.

Well, a lot of us mix some things up. But the hard fact is that Joe Biden is the oldest president in American history, 78 at the time of the election. While, Ronald Reagan, the previous owner of this record by comparison was a spring chicken, still a sprightly 77 when he left office after two successful terms.

But Biden will be 80 when the midterms happen, and they're already looking like pretty bad news. That growing unpopularity makes it likely that the Democrats will think a change of Commander in Chief is needed well before the next Presidential election.

During the Vice Presidential debate, the issue of the candidates' age and mental acuity was on the minds of many, which prompted moderator Susan Page (70) to ask Kamala Harris (57) and Mike Pence (62) if they had talked with their respective running mates and reached an agreement about safeguards and procedures in regards to presidential disability. They both dodged answering. But the 25th Amendment gives the answer: "In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President."

Sources familiar with the issue tell the BuffPo that right now Harris is concerned that the longer Sleepy Joe clings to office, the less chance she will have of picking up the crown.

What the Bookies say

If Kamala Harris were to run in 2024 she would only be America's second woman candidate and would have to overcome voter's hesitancy.

Nonetheless, Bookmakers Coral have put Kamala Harris on odds of 4/1 of winning the election, if she can run for president in 2024.

To put this into perspective, Mike Pence was put at 10/1. It seems the main obstacle to President Harris is one Joe Biden. At least he has clearly been considering the idea. In March this year, addressing a White House Press conference, his tongue sipped and he referred to "President Harris and I".
